MENLO PARK & REDWOOD CITY, CA — Two people sustained minor injuries Sunday morning when a big rig overturned on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near the Redwood City area following a collision with a sedan, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Crash Details: Overturned Big Rig and Multi-Vehicle Collision
At approximately 10:50 a.m., CHP officers responded to reports of a crash near the Marsh Road exit on northbound Highway 101. Upon arrival, they found an 18-wheeler lying on its side along the right shoulder of the freeway after colliding with a passenger sedan.
Both drivers — the truck operator and the sedan driver — were transported to Stanford Hospital with what authorities described as minor injuries.
Highway 101 Traffic Impact: Long Delays and Lane Closures
The collision initially closed several lanes of northbound Highway 101, which is one of the Bay Area’s busiest commuter routes. At the peak of the response, three lanes were shut down while emergency crews worked at the scene.
By midday, one lane had reopened, but two remained closed as responders continued clearing debris and coordinating traffic control. Motorists were advised to consider alternate routes, such as El Camino Real or State Highway 84 to Haven Road and East Bayshore Road, to avoid delays.
All lanes were eventually fully reopened just after 10 p.m., bringing an end to hours of heavy delays on the northbound highway.
